Inventory Products
Once the Product and Item Codes (Genus, Species, Cultivar, Size) are defined, you are ready to set up product information. As discussed in previous sections, a Product defines a plant within its horticultural classification. From the Product Screen, the details of each plant variety are also created.
A Product is a combination of Genus, Species and Cultivar codes, put together to create a plant that is sold to customers. Within each Product, record may be multiple Item Records that represent the different sizes of a product. Item locations are also a part of the inventory information available through the Product Screen. When the Products Screen is selected from the Menu Bar, no inventory information appears on the screen until specific search criteria is entered or a new Product record is added.
Locate Existing Product Records
Before adding new product records to the Inventory Products, you can see the information as it can be found. Most GrowPoint screens use the Search Criteria method on the List Tab to locate specific information saved in the system. Limiting the amount of information that appears on a screen increases response time on network systems and allows you to view only inventory information requested. The Search Criteria on the Product Screen enables you to locate records by item code, product group, location, or Genus, Species, Cultivar Code. Enter the desired criteria and press the Find Now Button to display the results in the Results Area. Once inventory information appears in the Results Area, the records may be viewed or changed.
Once information appears in the Results Area, the Latin, Code and Common columns may be further searched to locate Product records. If you click the mouse on the Common column, you will notice that the products will be sorted by that column. The color of the column heading will change to yellow, indicating that the column is in search mode. Begin typing the common name of a Product record. In the example above, the word BOX was typed in and the search brought up Boxwood. Until the Edit Button is selected, information on the Product Screen cannot be changed. While in View Mode, you can look at the detailed inventory information but will not have the option to edit and save changes. To edit a Product Record, locate the desired information using the Search Criteria and Find Now Button, then highlight the selected record and press the Edit Button.
